Cooper Lithium Project

Hydro Lit is a privately owned company, holding Australia’s largest JORC-compliant inferred lithium resource: the Cooper Lithium Project. The Cooper Lithium Project is also the country’s only lithium brine project.

Hydro Lit holds exclusive mineral rights over 9958 km² in South Australia’s Cooper Basin. The project area hosts a JORC Compliant inferred resource of 25.2 million tonnes lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) with an exploration target of 102 million tonnes LCE, sufficient to support multiple projects and decades of lithium supply.

Key Information

A geothermal lithium project extracts lithium from hot, mineral-rich brine found deep underground. This brine is brought to the surface, where lithium is separated using advanced filtration or chemical processes. The remaining brine can be reinjected, making the process more sustainable than traditional lithium mining. It combines renewable energy with lithium production, reducing environmental impact while providing a key material for batteries and clean energy storage.

The Cooper Lithium Project hosts Australia’s largest JORC-compliant inferred lithium resource of over 25.2 million tonnes LCE.

Global GeoLithium Projects

Very high lithium concentrations in over 70 available fluid samples of up to 320mg/l. Samples were taken from five wells drilled into the Innamincka Big Lake Suite Granite. The high lithium concentrations, combined with very low impurities (Total Dissolved Solids < 20,000ppm) allow low-cost extraction technologies to be deployed.

Geothermal lithium brines are contained in high-temperature, high-pressure fluid located beneath the Cooper Basin in fractured granites of north-eastern South Australia—making them highly amenable to extraction with contemporary technologies.

Located in South Australia’s Cooper Basin, one of the country’s major hydrocarbon provinces, the CLP is close to extensive infrastructure and has access to a ready-made workforce, further enhancing its appeal as a multi-decade source of lithium supply.

Exploration Target of up to 102 million tonnes LCE.
